When you work with people who are trying to conceive for years and most of them already went through a lot of doctors' visits, paid substantial amounts of money and emotionally they are on a constant rollercoaster, you ask yourself, how come, there are things they did not learn when growing up, during basic biology lessons or at the latest, when they've started their sexual life with a partner. The fact No. 1 is, they did not. They have learned how to put a condom on a banana. If they were lucky. The fact No. 2 is, we need to change this and that is why and how FerTeen came to exist.
My work in the field of international education started back in 2005 when I realised that even people trying to conceive and speaking to various specialists have a very limited knowledge of their fertility, its limits and an entire spectrum of areas that make a healthy pregnancy complicated or impossible. The other issue is that fertility is still viewed as a female agenda and the visit to a gynaecologist is usually the first encounter with a specialist whereas it should be a male doctor most people are not even aware of existing and are quite unable to name this specialisation.
Unfortunately, fertility or other intimate issues are often not discussed at all. Not with the parents, the siblings or even with the best friends. The shame still connected to words like vagina or semen is reflected in the very poor knowledge of basic biology. FerTeen is a revolutionary project designed for both boys and girls, who are hungry to know about their bodies, their sexual wellbeing and health and of course about the future because they see the changes in the lives of their parents. How does one make fertility messages positive, motivating, attractive, funny, and most of all remembered and used and how does one separate the truth from a myth or a hoax? All even more important in and after the Covid era. Rest assured you will find this information equally interesting. And fun as you already have enough weight on your shoulders.
